Sweet and Sour Stir-Fry Sauce

makes 1 cup

Equipment

1-2 qt. saucepan

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce with 2 tsp cornstarch dissolved
  • 1/2 cup apple cider vinegar (I prefer this vinegar for the lively tanginess) or you can use the milder rice wine vinegar. Nope, you can’t use balsamic or regular white vinegar.
  • 4 T brown sugar (You can use white sugar, but brown imparts a much richer flavor)
  • 1-2 tsp hot pepper flakes or Chili Garlic Sauce (You can omit this, but you’ll cheat yourself out of amazing flavor, if you leave it out. The sugar balances out the spiciness, so it won’t be overly piquant, but if you’re worried about the spiciness, start with less and add on as you adjust for your own palette.)

Directions

  1. Add all ingredients to sauce pan.
  2. Stirring constantly, heat until bubbly and beginning to thicken.
